We have a guest post by B, who has a few words to share on this awesome giveaway by wearFIGS (and on being the patient husband of a food blogger)!

Being a husband of a food blogger leads to lots of delayed gratification – like not being allowed to ever eat anything unless there’s daylight and the arrangement is perfect even if I’m hangry. It makes Natalie happy so I put up with it.

Although I prefer to be “The Mysterious B” and never write/post for the blog, my wife has compelled me to write a post because I know way more about scrubs and comfort than her.

One of the perks of being a surgical resident is not having to wear clinic clothes. Seeing my wife dress up in nice clothes and go to the hospital makes me cringe. I’m sorry, honey, but you chose the wrong specialty.

I consider myself very fortunate to be able to wear scrubs all day, everyday— they’re light and if I get blood on them who cares? The hospital will wash them.

Attendings at my hospital in NYC are required to wear suits. My surgery attending said, “I thought the perk of being an attending is wearing what you want. If I wanted to wear suits instead of scrubs, I would have been a banker.”

I am a creature of comfort. I wore basketball shorts and T-shirts in college, sweats pants during med school, and now I wear scrubs all the time, even as pajamas (Natalie makes sure they’re clean).

Attire-wise, its been a very comfortable decade for me and I’ll continue it forever (or as long as I can).

Helping me continue that trend of comfort is wearFIGS and their awesome vest.  The vest is form fitting, comfortable (obviously), has many pockets to carry all my crap – tape, scissors, betadine sticks, gauze, antibiotic ointments, and blades.

It’s also stylish, which my wife wishes upon more of my clothes (too bad, she’s locked in!).

Any guy looking for something to wear in the hospital when it gets cold will be had pressed to do better (or wives/girlfriends wishing their parters to be more stylish). Or the vest can be used for everyday wear.

What are you waiting for? Go get it!

  1. I am a creature of comfort too B! I hear that the scrubs that figs make are the most buttery soft!

    My fav figs recipe:
My favorite fig recipe is stuffed figs with goat cheese. You place goat cheese in a plastic or piping bag and massage with warm hands until softened. Cut a tip off one of the bottom corners of the bag and pipe the cheese into each fig, dividing your 4 oz. cheese evenly between the figs. Lightly brush the figs with olive oil and broil for 4 min. Take the figs out of the oven and lightly drizzle warm date honey on top. Wala!

  2. Can I enter this raffle again? Because my hospital scrubs feel like polyester soaked in starch and comfy scrubs sounds like the dream. Also hi natalie!

  3. yup you can have up to four entries per person – 2 on IG and 2 by blog post (blog post part II is coming later in the week)

Actually I prefer the texture of the paper thin super used scrubs at our country hospital over the brand new starchy ones we got at Yale … although I swear the XS in Texas = L size

  4. Oh my goodness, a blog about cooking as a resident is pretty much the best thing ever! I've got a fig tree out on my porch… I've been patiently waiting for figs for a couple years now.

  5. My favorite wearFIGS item was the Tela cargo pants which is no longer available… but I just bought the new Cairo pants and I'm can't wait to try them out!

  8. You're so lucky B! My bf started surgery at Yale, and he's required to dress up for morning rounds and only change to scrubs if he has cases. Thank goodness he can wear scrubs when he's on-call.

I, too, am loving the field vest. Probably a random gift for the bf to cheer him up.

  9. I am in love with my new Kade Cargo Pants! I am a tall, new grad nurse at 6' and am delighted that these fit my slender frame! I would love to try more Figs, thank you for this opportunity! 🙂 – Hailey

  11. Oh Nat and B – what a fun guest post! (and delicious panini) Watching you stage a food shot is epic fun =) Hope that you are well, m'dear, and that the cast iron skillet is still serving you well.

All these clothes look SO comfy (perhaps a good gift for med school/resident friends)… but esp the vest!

  12. I love their vest. It looks so cozy and you don't h e to worry about your sleeves getting dirty when you're elbows deep in who knows what. #ERLife

  13. Loooooooooove my Figs scrubs! The more the merrier, too! 🙂 And I've always wanted to try their outerwear too, so that would be so nice to have when it's chilly inside (which, let's be real, is everyday!)

  14. I love my Casma 3 pocket top and Livingston pants(that yoga waistband). I've been dying to get my hands on some outerwear!

  15. I have multiple pairs of the skinny pant… they are my fave! As a critical care nurse you can never have enough pockets. Super functional and looks cute too! Can wait to try their new jogger pants 🙂

  16. I would love to win a pair of these for my daughter! She works so hard in school ☺️ On the fig recipe side – I love fig bars!

  17. I LOVE love love the petite Kade cargo scrub pants. They're the first pair of scrub pants that I haven't had to shorten – short people problems! They're also super comfortable and breathable – I forget I'm in scrubs when I get home so I have to remind myself to change out of them because they're so comfy!

  18. Thanks for the delish recipe. Will be great for my next lunch in!!!
I commented on your Instagram, but I just recently discovered an almond fig energy bite recipe. Perfect for those night shifts.

My fave scrub pants are the Zamora pants! Love the blue drawstring.

    Cheers!

  19. I'm a student and right now only allowed to wear hunter green scrubs. BUT I graduate in 6 weeks (all the praise hands emojis) and first on my list is to buy a pair of black and a pair of grey figs scrubs !! Literally a grad present to myself is buying myself scrubs…who have I become!!!

  20. I own the Catarina top and pants in black and absolutely love them! I prefer them over all my other scrubs. The vest is pretty great too; though! So stylish.

  21. I would love to give my son, a doctor (<–obvious Mom brag 🙂 ) the Ultra-cozy fleece in Storm. He has just begun a fellowship in San Francisco and would get a lot of use from a great jacket.
