Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl
As you might have noticed, OCD has gotten a new design – a new layout was definitely in need. Loving how it looks so far and hope you enjoy it 🙂


My little brother Hans is now a big shot investment banker on Wall Street! Ok… he’s actually just the summer intern which is the bottom of the totem pole… but he’s in NYC! The perk is getting to see him more since he’s just a train ride away from me and a subway ride away from B.
Hopefully he’ll get a return offer afterwards, so he’ll have a banking job right out of college and hang out with his big sister (when he’s not working 120 hrs a week – yikes!).
You might recall Hans from his recipe contributions on the blog (Chicken Stuffed Avocados, Nordstrom’s Cilantro Lime Shrimp Salad, and Honey Mint Tea). He’s a pretty good cook (and an even bigger eater).
Banking, let alone the kind of banking on Wall Street, is a mysterious field. They’re quite formal and have to dress up all the time (my little brother has so many suits!) and spend all day on excel. They’re of the few jobs with worse hours than medicine, and I don’t envy them.


Hans has definitely been called to the office to work after midnight, and there are nights he sleeps at 4am (or doesn’t sleep at all), as he and the bankers crunch numbers for some crazy deadline. There’s no weekends. And he’s interning at one of the “nicer” banking companies.
I will go to the hospital after midnight for a sick patient. I won’t go to the office after midnight to make a powerpoint. #priorities
B and I got to visit Hans in his fancy banking office. Because of the awful banking hours, his company provides breakfast daily and will pay for your dinner takeout if you stay past 8pm (which is literally everyday). Lunch is on your own – so Hans took us to a cute poke takeout place nearby.
Since B and I were “underdressed” (ie not in suits), we weren’t allowed to enter the office, only the lobby as mere plebeians. So we sat in the lobby, and ate our delicious poke bowls.

I wanted to recreate the poke bowl since it tasted so good. Hans and B came up to Connecticut on their day off and we made this copycat recipe (B had prepared the tuna prior)! Ours is better because it’s got more of the good stuff in it – filled with sashimi!
You can add whatever you like in the poke -just keep in mind more is not always better! Just pick 2-3 sides for your fish of choice to avoid overwhelming the sashimi, and it’s perfection.
Ingredients
TUNA
tuna sashimi (my recipe here)
KALE
1 bunch kale, sliced thinly
½ cup seasoned rice wine vinegar
¼ cup sesame oil
1 tbsp honey
2 cloves garlic, minced
1-1/2 teaspoon ginger, minced
POKE BOWL
1 mango, diced
rice
mirin
1 avocado, sliced thinly
Directions
Prepare tuna for sashimi as above (or buy some)
For the kale, whisk the rice wine vinegar, sesame oil, honey, garlic, and ginger together. Drizzle over the kale in a bowl and massage the dressing into kale leaves. Let is rest for an hour. Toss once more right before you make your poke bowl.
To make the poke bowl, place your sushi rice first. Top with you tuna sashimi, then mango, kale, and avocado. Garnish with nori rice topping and sesame seeds. Serve immediately. Enjoy!

Lol investment banking isn't all that bad. The work ebbs and flows. But there is a lot of Excel and PowerPoint, and 4am nights are not fun haha

Ah no real seaweed in this (we couldn't find any sadly except for the dried nori topping – but it's got kale which is kind of close)
