There’s been a big heat wave with our families enduring triple digit temperatures. Luckily, it’s been somewhat milder for us in the northeast.
An Arnold Palmer is a non-alcoholic drink made of iced tea and lemonade, named after American golfer Arnold Palmer. As a former competitive golfer, a golfing connection is always exciting. I stopped competing years ago but it was always terrible playing tournaments in >100F Texas heat.
Palmer came up with this combination, ordered it at a restaurant, and then someone nearby said “I want what he has – an Arnold Palmer!” Apparently, once it was named after him, it was slightly awkward for him to say he wanted an Arnold Palmer, so he would just tell people how to make it.
On a side note, I didn’t have a lemon to garnish for the photos, so I tried three different small downtown groceries which didn’t have good lemons! So I actually walked next door to a bar and begged for some lemons slices. They took pity on me and gave me two lemons. ‘

Lemongrass Mint “Arnold Palmer” Lemonade Tea
5 cup boiling water
3-4 green tea bags
1 small bunch mint, plus more for garnish
2 sticks lemongrass, plus more for garnish
freshly squeezed lemonade
lemons, for garnish
Put your water in a small saucepan and set heat on high.
Using only the bottom 2-inches of lemongrass stalk, cut into chunks and bruise with the back of your knife. Add the lemongrass stalks and the mint to your boiling water. Add the tea and steep water for about 5 mins. Then let it sit at room temperature until cool.
Pour your infused tea into a pitcher (straining the mint and lemongrass). Add lemonade. Adjust to taste. Refrigerate at least 4 hours or overnight.
Garnish with additional sprigs of mint, lemongrass, and lemon slices. Enjoy!
