February is the month of all my family’s birthdays. As we get older, giving birthday presents gets so much harder, so instead of giving items, we’ve tended to give “experiences.”
Last year, my parents jet setted off for London as all of the kids were stuck in school and work. For their birthdays, they wanted to have “high tea” (my parents have birthdays just a day apart). I’ve never been to London, but it’s always been on my bucket list. My parents had a blast enjoyed showed off their high tea photos via text.
Recently, I needed a new teapot badly and spent forever agonizing which teapot to get. I sent B a million teapot links, and like most husbands, he was rather disinterested in which teapot would grace our counter.
I ended settling on this cute blue teapot, and my husband breathed a sigh of relief when he no longer had a text thread full of teapots.
My biggest pet peeve however is untoasted bread. So classic tea sandwich bread is served cold and soft, but since I’m eating them all, I toasted the bread lightly. That’s the perk when you make your own food.
Turkey Sprout Tea Sandwiches
4 slices bread
4-5 slices turkey meat
3 slices swiss cheese
1 avocado, mashed
salt and pepper, to taste
In a bowl, mash the avocado with a fork. Add salt and pepper to taste.
On a slice of bread (I toasted mine but classically they are not toasted), layer the turkey meat, swiss cheese, and sprouts. On another slice of bread, spread the mashed avocado. Combine the sandwich and slice diagonally. Serve with tea and enjoy.
