Seven Layer Bars

These Seven Layer Bars are a quick and easy sweet dessert you can make for your Valentine’s date, Galentine’s ladies, or a crowd party at the office.

Some places call them “Magic Bars” or “Hello Dolly Bars,” but I grew up with them as Seven Layer Bars (even though technically it’s six layers, although I guess the name comes from the seven ingredients)

Fun fact, Hello Dolly was one of the first musicals I brought B to see. Granted, it wasn’t the best one to introduce a guy to musicals – we should have gone with Lion King, Wicked, or Book of Mormon, as he nearly fell asleep.

I’ve always been a sucker for Seven Layer Bars but often found them way too sweet. This version lightens it up by using dark chocolate, unsweetened coconut, and less than a can of condensed milk.

My bars didn’t turn out the prettiest, but they were definitely very tasty. B has never really had them before but inhaled them.

Adapted from Allrecipes. I did mine in a 9×9 pan instead of the 9×13 pan in the original recipe, so they’d be thicker and taller. Enjoy!

Seven Layer Bars

Ingredients
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips
1 cup butterscotch chips
1 cup chopped pecans
2/3 of 14oz can sweetened condensed milk
1 1/4 cups unsweetened shredded coconut

Directions
Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease a 9×9 pan.

Combine butter and graham cracker in a bowl and spread the crumbs evenly over bottom of pan. Layer chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, and nuts. Pour condensed milk then top with the shredded coconut.

Bake until edges are golden brown (20-25 min). Set aside to cool and cut into bars. Enjoy!
