Spiced Apple Cider

Happy New Year! Although we sadly took the Christmas tree down and stopped hearing Christmas songs, a cup of hot cider never fails to cheer me up.

Before I met B, I always drank cider cold (it’s warm in Texas), but B loves drinking his cider hot, which is perfect for the New England winters. We’ve had some pretty impressive freezing temperatures including the infamous bomb cyclone. The weather was so bad, even schools and clinics shut down – and it takes a lot for the Northeast to shut down in the winter.

Luckily I was on my clinic rotation; I hadn’t seen B for a long time thanks to my month of oncology prior, so when I learned clinic was cancelled, I excitedly took the train down to New York to visit him (and Nike!).

I’m still awful when it comes to the cold – my hands and feet always feel frozen even with snow boots and snow gloves. Being the crazy photographer I am, I of course had to take photos of the storm and wandered around Central Park. Central Park is always pretty, but it becomes stunning when during a snowstorm. I was the only person there, no surprise.

Nike bravely accompanied me in the storm (B was like, no way, I’m staying inside under the covers) and became the abominable snow pup.

This spiced apple cider recipe can be customized to whatever ingredients you have – apples, pears, oranges, cinnamon sticks, cloves, cranberries, and more. It’s my way of using up all the leftover holiday ingredients.

Hope you enjoy this easy winter drink and stay warm!
